Upcoming change to Microsoft 365 F1 and F3 mailbox access

Microsoft has announced that Exchange Web Services (EWS) support for Microsoft 365 F1 and F3 licences will end on 30 June 2026..

From that date, mailbox access through EWS will no longer be available for users who only have an F1 or F3 licence.

Some applications and services currently use EWS to access mailbox data. This includes certain backup solutions used to protect Microsoft 365 mailboxes, such as the service Pink Elephant provides. As a result, backups for mailboxes linked to F3 licensed users may be affected once EWS support is retired.

Microsoft is moving towards new Graph API access method as the modern and supported way for services to access Microsoft 365.

Pink Elephant is already preparing support for this new access method. Our backup services will transition to the Graph API based approach, which we expect to have available by summer 2026 .
